Rhett Regina Owings and Tamara Keiper have artwork on display at Carolyn Huff Gallery now through November.
Rhett Regina Owings says that after graduating from San Francisco State College (now University) with a major in Fine Arts, she began her career teaching Art at the junior high school in Turlock in 1967. After many years of teaching she retired in 1999.
All during her teaching years, she yearned to have more time to paint full time, but it wasn’t until retirement that she was able to devote enough time to her dream. She soon took a number of plein air workshops and classes and studied landscape painting with Dean Packer and other accomplished artists. She loves painting “en plein air” on location, feeling that color, especially in sunlight, can not be matched with studio light. For Rhett, there is nothing like the colors in the out-of-doors. Color and the play of light on trees, hills and buildings fascinate her. Rhett has always been concerned with the environment and the loss of habitat. She tries to reflect this in her paintings of farms, countryside and the California coast. She has painted in the Central Valley of California, the Central California Coast, Sierras, the foothills, as well as on her trips to Utah and Alaska. She enjoys working with oils, acrylics, and pastels, and occasionally dabbling in watermedia. She also enjoys folding paper cranes with beautiful Japanese hand silk screened Washi papers.
Over the years Rhett has won awards in many art shows and has shown her paintings in a number of galleries. Her work can be viewed on her online gallery at: www.RhettsStudio.com and on Daily Paintworks.com. Her paintings can be found in collections throughout the US as well as in Canada, England and Australia. Rhett is a member of the Valley Sun Catchers, Monterey Bay Area Plein Air Painters Association and the Central Coast Art Association. Her cranes and paintings are on display at the Mistlin Art Gallery, the Stockton Art League, and the Tracy Grand Art Gallery.
