Frame of Mind- Framing Your Portrait Art
At Carolyn Huff Photography, we believe that our art is best viewed when it’s seen on the wall.
Therefore, we include a standard frame with every portrait created on canvas and watercolor. We also carry many premium frame samples for our clients so that their portrait can be completed according to their specific likes and needs.
There are several considerations to ponder when choosing the best frame for your portrait art. First, the frame should compliment the artwork and not draw undue attention to itself. You want to draw the eye into the faces depicted in the artwork. Generally, the width of the frame should not be larger than the head sizes. The tones and texture of the frame should be similar to the artwork. And lastly, the frame should match the overall “feeling” of the piece. For instance, a gold ornate frame would look out of place on a canvas with subjects dressed in jeans and T-shirts on the beach. But that same frame would look splendid when the same subjects are wearing more formal clothing in a traditional studio or home setting. Of course, there are always exceptions to any “rule.” These are just some of the considerations we suggest to make sure that your portrait art is a treasured piece of “furniture” for your home.
One of the things we can do for our portrait clients is to project the portraits you are choosing at the size it will be on your very own walls. That way, you don’t have to question, “Is this going to work in my house?” You will know before you buy exactly how your portraits will look.
