Carol David, Pastel Artist
Carol David's love of art and nature came from her Dad, a UC Davis Entomology professor, who documented his work in pen and ink. He encouraged her in high school to take an art correspondence course. This led to becoming the art editor of her high school newspaper and then graduating from San Jose State University in Commercial Art and Art Education, to which she added a teaching credential. She married her husband, Milt, and Orthopedic Surgeon, and they have four children. They settled in Modesto, California. Like many valley people they always had vacations in the Lake Tahoe area.
Today Carol draws from valley scenes and her much loved Sierras. Carol believes pastels are her best tools to interpret and share the beautiful world around her. She loves the vibrant colors and the process of layering one color on another to bring out the glow of pastels. She has had a variety of assignments: football players at San Jose State University and UC Berkeley for the Athletic Departments, commissioned to do horses for owners, people and places for posters and the many inspired paintings she has entered into shows. She is a member of the Pastel Society of the West Coast, Valley Sun Catchers, North Tahoe Arts, Central California Art Association, Carnegie Arts Center, and the National League of American Pen Women.
